NYC Kids Partner to Build TEDxManhattan Backdrop

A group of 17 middle and high school students from two NYC schools came together earlier this month to build the backdrop for  TEDxManhattan, which will take place Feb. 16.  The backdrop will decorate the stage, and will be seen by not only several hundred attendees, but thousands who will watch online at official viewing parties or from their homes or offices.

The project brought together kids from The Calhoun School, a Manhattan private school, and Hyde Leadership Charter School, located in the Bronx in one of America’s poorest Congressional Districts.  It was organized by Steve Ritz, a 2012 TEDxManhattan speaker and dean of students at Hyde Leadership, and David Hyman, a Calhoun teacher.  The two educators see the project as the beginning of a model of school and community collaboration.

The process of creating the backdrop was filmed, and a clip will be shown at TEDxManhattan.  Read more on Calhoun’s website.
